W&H Enhances Flexo Capabilities with New Miraclon FLEXCEL NX Ultra 42 Installation

Flexible packaging converter Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) has upgraded its capabilities by installing the Miraclon FLEXCEL NX Ultra 42 Solution, replacing the previous FLEXCEL NX Ultra 35. This new system allows W&H to demonstrate a wider range of customer applications and press configurations, showcasing the potential of modern flexographic printing in a practical setting.

Frederik Petzold, director of technical sales at W&H, emphasized the importance of their Technology Center in illustrating how various technologies can create efficient, scalable printing solutions. The integration of advanced platemaking technology from Miraclon enhances the performance of W&H’s press demonstrations, setting a new standard for end-to-end flexographic system efficiency.

The FLEXCEL NX Ultra 42 Solution is designed for improved flexibility in wide web printing, featuring a consistent multi-form plate surface pattern and stable ink transfer characteristics. This allows W&H to operate at optimal efficiency, demonstrating wider process windows and faster stabilization on press, while ensuring the repeatable print quality that converters expect from advanced flexo technologies.

Grant Blewett, chief commercial officer of Miraclon, noted that the FLEXCEL NX Ultra Solution maintains the proven performance of its predecessor while offering solvent-free and VOC-free platemaking. This innovation leads to consistent ink transfer and stable on-press behavior, providing converters with enhanced efficiency and production control.

Additionally, W&H has incorporated a FlexPose 420 ECDLF exposure unit from Glunz & Jensen, featuring a Shine LED Lamp Kit developed by Miraclon. This kit ensures stable and uniform UV output for consistent plate exposure, reducing variability associated with aging mercury lamps. The instant-on LED design not only boosts productivity but also lowers energy consumption while delivering cleaner highlights and predictable on-press performance.
