SGS Alerts Exporters to New Labeling and Energy Regulations in Ivory Coast
SGS, a leading testing, inspection, and certification company, has announced updated labeling requirements under the Product Conformity Assessment (PCA) Program (CI71) in Ivory Coast. The revised regulations mandate that foodstuffs, cosmetics, tobacco products, and pesticides display all necessary markings and instructions in French. If the original label is not in French, an additional label must be affixed with the required information.
For industrial and professional products, markings and instructions must be provided in either French or English. Should the original labeling be in another language, a supplementary label with all mandatory information in French or English is required.
These changes, introduced under Decree 92-487 of August 26, 1992, aim to enhance compliance with national standards and improve consumer and industry access to product information.
Additionally, new energy labeling requirements for selected electrical appliances, such as electric lamps, air conditioners, refrigerators, and freezers, will take effect on July 1, 2024. This initiative is designed to provide consumers with clear information regarding energy consumption and environmental impact.
SGS is committed to assisting exporters in adapting to these evolving PCA requirements through conformity assessment and regulatory guidance. The company advises exporters whose products are not yet subject to the new regulations to begin preparations for compliance. With its global expertise and network, SGS continues to monitor regulatory changes worldwide to help ensure that shipments meet national standards and avoid customs delays.
