RDM Group and Dow Launch Recycled Food Packaging to Comply with EU Regulations
RDM Group and Dow have introduced a new fibre-based food packaging solution, Multiboard CirculaRR, made entirely from recycled materials. This innovation aims to assist brands in adhering to the evolving EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates that all packaging on the EU market must be recyclable by 2030 and includes targets for recycled plastic content.
The Multiboard CirculaRR combines recycled paper fibres with recycled polyethylene (PE), making it suitable for various food-contact applications, including frozen foods, fruit trays, and dry pet food packaging. This development leverages RDM Group’s expertise in fibre-based packaging and Dow’s advancements in materials science and circular polymer technologies.
The packaging is designed for recyclability and has received certification for its recycled content under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) system. Additionally, it has been certified by ISEGA for food-contact suitability. The polyethylene component is sourced from advanced recycling processes, which convert hard-to-recycle plastic waste into high-performance materials.
The launch of Multiboard CirculaRR aligns with the food packaging sector’s preparations for new EU regulations, ensuring that brands can meet compliance requirements while maintaining food safety and packaging performance. Independent testing has confirmed that the packaging can be effectively recycled within existing paper recycling systems.
RDM Group and Dow plan to showcase this innovative packaging solution at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7 to 13, where prototypes will be displayed at Dow’s stand.
