Mondi Launches New Paper Bags Facility in Pittsburgh to Meet eCommerce Demand

Mondi, a leader in sustainable packaging, has inaugurated a new paper bags production facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, aimed at enhancing its manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. The facility is designed to cater to the increasing demand from eCommerce and industrial sectors, producing a variety of paper bags for markets including food, feed, building materials, and chemicals.

This state-of-the-art plant consolidates production from Mondi’s previous sites in Wellsburg, West Virginia, and Oakdale, Pennsylvania, while incorporating advanced automation technologies to improve efficiency and quality. With a focus on the rapidly expanding eCommerce sector, the facility will produce innovative paper mailer bags and is expected to achieve an annual capacity of 300 million bags after the ramp-up phase.

Rory Taylor, President of Paper Bags Americas at Mondi, emphasized that this new plant represents a significant advancement for their paper bags business in North America, enhancing their ability to provide reliable, high-quality solutions tailored to evolving customer needs.

Nedim Nisic, VP General Manager for eCommerce at Mondi, noted that the facility is strategically positioned to meet the demands of high-volume, fast-moving applications, ensuring flexibility and consistent performance. This investment underscores Mondi’s commitment to sustainable growth in the U.S. market.

The Pittsburgh plant is expected to employ around 170 people by the end of the year, combining operational and customer service expertise to ensure efficient service. Its location benefits from robust infrastructure and proximity to key customers, facilitating effective logistics and responsiveness.
