Innovia Films Expands Sustainable Label Production in Mexico to Meet Growing Demand

Innovia Films has announced the expansion of its sustainable label production capabilities at its Zacapu, Mexico manufacturing site. This move aims to support converters and brands in adapting to evolving regulations and label requirements in the North American market.

The new production hub will focus on advanced surface-engineered biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, enhancing local production of high-performance coated and metalized pressure-sensitive label (PSL) facestocks. The investment includes upgrades in coating, metalizing technology, slitting capabilities, and laboratory facilities.

Aaron Henneger, VP and general manager at Innovia Films Americas, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing converters with increased flexibility and responsiveness. By integrating proven base films with advanced coatings, Innovia aims to offer a modular approach to label facestocks, catering to both current market demands and future requirements.

Innovia Films is set to showcase its innovations at the upcoming Labels & Outer Packaging Embellishment (LOUPE) 2026 event in Chicago, where it will demonstrate its RayoFloat technology. This floatable shrink-sleeve solution is designed to improve PET recycling by ensuring clean separation during the recycling process. Additionally, the company will present RayoFloat White, which allows brands to use clear recyclable containers instead of colored bottles while still providing light protection.

The company is also highlighting its range of sustainable products, including downgauged, squeezable PSL, linerless food labels, in-mold, PCR-content films, and non-PVC graphic films. Lucija Kralj, business unit director for Labels EMEA at Innovia Films, noted the company’s ongoing efforts to support the transition to circular packaging through innovative materials that reduce waste.

In 2023, Innovia launched P2G, a clear BOPP film designed for flow wrap applications in fresh produce packaging. The company also collaborated with PureCycle Technologies to trial a white, cavitated BOPP film containing over 40% post-consumer recycled polypropylene content. Last year, Innovia introduced the Rayoart coating line in the UK, enhancing its capabilities in water-based coatings for graphics film applications.
