In an exclusive interview, Mandy Glew from Ball Corporation highlighted the company’s strategic expansion in India, emphasizing the country’s growing beverage can market and the shift towards sustainable aluminium packaging. With significant investments, Ball aims to enhance its operational scale and strengthen partnerships with both global and local brands seeking modern packaging solutions.

India’s beverage market is experiencing rapid growth, with a diverse range of categories transitioning to aluminium packaging, including established segments like beer and carbonated drinks, as well as emerging sectors such as energy drinks and ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee. Ball’s retort technology is particularly noteworthy, allowing sensitive products like dairy and RTD beverages to maintain freshness and nutritional integrity while extending shelf life.

Glew noted that conversations with brands revealed a strong demand for packaging that protects product quality and meets sustainability goals. The introduction of retort aluminium cans has already led to successful collaborations with companies like CavinKare and Dabur, who are capitalizing on the benefits of aluminium for their products.

Ball’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its initiatives to support local communities and suppliers, creating jobs and reinforcing regional supply chains. The company is also focused on aligning with India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework, which mandates producers to manage the post-consumer lifecycle of packaging.

Looking ahead, Ball plans to further innovate in the Indian market by scaling technologies that enhance environmental performance and support the growth of new beverage categories. The company’s long-term vision is to establish India as a cornerstone of its global strategy, leading the transition to circular aluminium packaging that meets the evolving demands of consumers and producers alike.
