Yangi Launches Sustainable Dry-Formed Fibre Trays for Food Packaging
Yangi has introduced a new line of dry-formed fibre trays aimed at enhancing food packaging solutions for meat, fish, deli items, and ready meals. Utilizing the innovative Cellera manufacturing platform, these trays are produced through a dry forming process, which allows for large-scale adoption by packaging suppliers.
The trays are designed to withstand various conditions, including chilled, frozen, microwave, and oven applications, ensuring structural integrity and durability during handling. They also feature sealing capabilities and are compatible with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), which is crucial for maintaining shelf life in the food industry.
Made from renewable virgin fibres and free from PFAS, the trays come with a functional laminate that can be customized based on specific usage requirements. Depending on the laminate selected, several variants of the trays are suitable for recycling within existing paper systems.
Yangi offers both bleached and unbleached versions of the trays, with sizes tailored to meet diverse packaging needs. The design supports additional features such as debossing and high-resolution digital printing on all surfaces, including the sides, and is ready for labeling.
By eliminating the wet stage in the fibre forming process, Yangi’s Cellera technology enables production cycles of just four to six seconds, significantly reducing the number of manufacturing steps compared to traditional pulp moulding methods.
Founder Anna Altner emphasized that the trays not only represent a product launch but also set a new standard in fibre-based packaging, boasting approximately 80% lower CO₂ impact compared to plastic alternatives. This advancement aligns with the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
In September, Yangi secured €10 million ($11.7 million) in a Series A funding round to expand its fibre packaging production capacity, further solidifying its position in the market.
