Yangi Launches PFAS-Free Dry-Formed Fiber Tray for Food Packaging
Yangi, a Sweden-based packaging provider, has introduced a production-ready dry-formed fiber tray designed for meat, fish, deli, and ready meals. This innovation is powered by Cellera, Yangi’s advanced dry-forming machine, which promises cost-effective, high-volume production with consistent precision.
The new tray is crafted from renewable fibers and is free from PFAS, featuring a selectively applied functional laminate for high-demand applications. The recyclability of the tray varies depending on the laminate chosen, while integrated fiber chemistry enhances its outer properties.
Hanna Rudel, Yangi’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the tray’s customizable design, stating it allows brands and converters to adopt premium fiber-based packaging without sacrificing functionality or cost.
Yangi’s Cellera machine enables manufacturers to overcome the limitations of traditional wet-mold fiber by utilizing a dual-drum airlaid formation process, in-line custom pad formation, and precision transfer technology. This innovation is expected to set a new standard in fiber-based packaging.
Anna Altner, Yangi’s founder, highlighted the environmental benefits, noting that the tray has approximately 80% lower CO2 impact compared to plastic alternatives, while also offering scalable industrial reliability. The elimination of the wet stage in conventional dry forming simplifies production and enhances efficiency, achieving cycle times of just 4-6 seconds.
The fiber tray is available in both bleached and unbleached options, with customizable sizes, and supports features such as debossing and high-resolution digital printing. It meets food safety requirements and maintains its integrity in various consumer settings, including chilled, frozen, microwave, and oven environments. Additionally, it is compatible with modified atmosphere packaging, enhancing its versatility in food applications.
