Sonoco Consolidates Global Consumer Packaging Leadership Under Ernest Haynes
Sonoco Products Company has announced a strategic alignment of its Global Consumer Packaging businesses under a unified leadership structure, appointing Ernest Haynes as President of the segment. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency and foster innovation across the company’s extensive portfolio of metal and paper packaging solutions.
Howard Coker, Sonoco’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this restructuring, stating that it will better position the company to meet the evolving needs of its global customer base. Haynes, who has nearly three decades of experience within Sonoco, will oversee a business that generates approximately $5.2 billion in annual sales and operates 98 facilities across 25 countries.
In his new role, Haynes is tasked with leveraging technology, supply chain capabilities, and research and development to drive growth in Sonoco’s metal and paper can sectors. He expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to enhance collaboration and innovation within the company, aiming to deliver world-class manufacturing and customer service.
Haynes has held various leadership positions at Sonoco, including President of the Consumer, Americas business and President of Metal Packaging North America. His extensive background in the packaging industry positions him well to lead the company’s largest global segment.
Meanwhile, James Harrell will continue to lead Sonoco’s Industrial Paper Packaging segment, while Sean Cairns, President of Sonoco EMEA/APAC, will depart the company after 17 years.
