SHARPAK Yate Receives King’s Award for Litepak Innovation in Sustainable Packaging
SHARPAK Yate has been awarded the 2026 King’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation for its groundbreaking Litepak Technology in poultry packaging. This accolade, the highest honor for British businesses, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability in the food industry.
Litepak technology has achieved a significant 27% reduction in packaging weight and plastic usage while maintaining essential shelf-life and safety standards. This innovation previously earned the title of Resource Efficient Pack of the Year at the 2022 UK Packaging Awards, further solidifying its impact in the market.
The Yate facility’s approach involved advanced reverse engineering to enhance structural integrity, ensuring that the packaging remains robust and leak-proof during high-speed production, despite the reduction in material.
Fabia Terranova, Managing Director of SHARPAK Yate, emphasized the importance of this recognition, attributing it to the innovative spirit of the team and the support from parent company Groupe GUILLIN. She stated, “This honor belongs to our dedicated team, whose ‘laboratory-first’ mindset allowed us to achieve the 27% plastic reduction that defines Litepak today.”
The award comes at a crucial time as SHARPAK Yate is a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact, launched on April 21, 2026, aimed at fostering a circular economy for packaging. Litepak serves as a prime example of the company’s efforts to meet the Pact’s goals for optimizing packaging.
As a recipient of the King’s Award, SHARPAK Yate is entitled to display the official emblem on its products and fly the King’s Award flag at its headquarters for the next five years. The company plans to commemorate this achievement with a formal presentation ceremony later this year, hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant, the King’s personal representative.
