Coveris Unveils PFAS-Free Packaging Solutions for Pet Food Ahead of EU Regulations
Coveris has announced the launch of a new range of PFAS-free, monomaterial packaging specifically designed for pet food, aligning with the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) that will impose strict limits on PFAS in food-contact packaging starting August 12.
The company emphasizes that pet food manufacturers are increasingly seeking solutions that ensure product protection while minimizing environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency. All packaging solutions showcased at the Interzoo 2026 trade fair, scheduled for May 12–15 in Nuremberg, Germany, have been developed with a PFAS-free design approach to facilitate compliance with forthcoming regulatory requirements.
Among the innovative offerings is the MonoFlexE Opti Weight Bag, which aims to reduce material consumption without sacrificing performance. This lightweight solution not only optimizes costs by lowering packaging-related taxes but is also fully recyclable and designed to provide a premium shelf appearance.
Another notable product is the MonoFlexBE Metallised, a fully recyclable polyethylene (PE) monomaterial solution featuring a metalized inner layer that enhances barrier performance against oxygen and moisture, thereby extending shelf life while maintaining a high-quality aesthetic, making it ideal for premium pet food.
Additionally, the MonoFlexE Lite is available in both barrier and non-barrier structures, incorporating adaptable sealing options and compatibility with Freshlife technology to support product freshness. This solution also allows for high-quality printing, enhancing on-pack communication, and includes optional features like an anti-mist finish for improved presentation.
Coveris is also set to introduce a paper wrap for confectionery packaging at Interpack 2026, further demonstrating its commitment to sustainable packaging solutions. Will Mercer, Coveris’ Paper R&D director, will discuss the latest recyclability trends at Packaging Innovations 2026, highlighting the company’s focus on innovation and sustainability in the packaging sector.
