A4 Labels Introduces Ocean-Bound Plastic Label Collection

A4 Labels, a label manufacturer based in Fishersgate, has launched its new Ocean Action Labels range, utilizing ocean-bound plastic to provide brands with a sustainable labeling option. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on virgin fossil-based materials while addressing marine plastic pollution.

The Ocean Action Labels are crafted from plastic waste at high risk of entering the ocean, primarily sourced from coastal areas lacking effective waste management. This type of plastic is responsible for approximately 80% of marine litter. By adopting these labels, brands can contribute to mitigating the plastic leak while opting for a more sustainable solution.

Key features of the new label range include:
– White and clear top-coated PP film made from chemically recycled ocean-bound plastic.
– ISCC PLUS certification using the mass balance approach.
– Identical performance properties to standard PP film, requiring no changes to existing packaging processes.
– Suitability for demanding applications, including food and cosmetics packaging.

The chemically recycled material serves as a drop-in solution, allowing brands to enhance the recycled content of their packaging without needing to modify their labeling processes or equipment. Currently, only about 10% of plastic waste is recycled globally, with the remainder often ending up in landfills, incineration, or the environment. Each year, nearly 13 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean, highlighting the urgent need for solutions like A4 Labels’ new range.

This launch is part of A4 Labels’ broader sustainability efforts, including its Eco-Pledge partnership with Seven Clean Seas. To date, this collaboration has resulted in the removal of 4,231 kg of plastic waste from the ocean and the cleaning of 29,154 meters of coastline in Indonesia, a region severely impacted by marine pollution.
